Hey! Me and my parents are going to go to Silver City in a few days, for the second time. I decided I needed to write about our first trip before it becomes blurred with time and the second trip.
The reason we are/have been visiting Silver City is that my parents are interested in maybe buying some land in order to eventually live there or eventually sell it. Silver City is a cute little university town in Southwestern New Mexico. It's quite a nice place.
On our first visit, we arrived on Thanksgiving Day, and not many places were open for dinner. Long story short, we ended up eating at Sonic. It was... interesting. The next day we drove for a while to this national park place. I can't for the life of me remember what it's called. Once we got there we went on this short hike up to some ruins (see picture). They were really neat. After that we attempted to do a hike, but after a half hour or less of walking we ran into a river that my mom and I didn't want to attempt to cross. When we tried again on a different hike after that, we ran into another river after 5 or 10 minutes. Ah well. That night (and the night after) we managed to go to a nice restaurant, not Sonic. It was really good. The day after that, I think we mostly wandered around, going into different shops. We ate lunch at the hotel and walked around a little more, then just relaxed. That night, the Lighted Christmas Parade (see picture) or whatever it was called was going on, so we watched that from our nice warm hotel room. It was really cold in Silver City, at least compared to Rio Rico. And it got even colder at night, so it was nice to be in the room. The parade was really neat. The next day, after a nice breakfast out, we drove the almost exactly four hours home.
On this last trip, we left the house around 10 and arrived in Silver City around 2 on December 29, a Saturday. We checked into a B&B house. It was a nice little place, and the lady who rented it out was very helpful. That day we met with a realtor and decided to meet at 8:30 the next day to look for land. We went to dinner at a restaurant that wasn't too fancy but was plenty good. The next day, after some difficulties finding a place to eat because it was Sunday and everything was closed, we found a place and had a nice breakfast with Paula, the realtor. She's a really nice person and a good realtor. After breakfast, we started looking around. We looked at some really nice places, and at the end of the day we hadn't really eliminated any of the lots. We ate out at this pizza place, and after dinner we hung out in the jacuzzi that the house had. It was very nice. The last day of 07, we visted all the plots of land that we liked, and eventually decided on one along Sanctuary Road. It's a gorgeous six acre plot (see picture) that makes you feel like you're in the middle of a forest. It's cooler than Rio Rico, and much wilder, even though it's only about 15 minutes from town. It's really nice. By the time we had decided it was probably 2, so we called Paula (realtor) and, since she was driving to Phoenix, she helped us over the phone fill out the forms to buy ask the owner to sell us the land. It should be ours buy the end of January. After filling the forms out, I went home and read while my parents drove around, toward the Gila Wilderness, I think, and while they went a got a couple of movies to watch to keep us up until the new year. We went to dinner at 7:30 at a fancy and very good place. After we finished dinner and walked to the house, we watched the movies and welcomed in the new year with a very bad rendition of Auld Lang Syne which I'm happy to say I didn't participate in. In the morning of Jan. 1, 08, we packed up and headed to XX Sanctuary Road (it doesn't have an address yet) to wander around some more. After saying bye to it, we drove home. The plan is to go back in a couple weeks. =]
